[She/Her] Born in South Wales, Amelia Seren Roberts is an artist, writer and educator currently based in Nottingham\\
Following graduation from Loughborough University and Cardiff School of Art and Design I have developed my practice alongside the ExperiMentor programme and have recently exhibited at UKYA City Takeover, Nottingham as well as working with KÜHLE WAMPE collective and Backlit Gallery to share work at Tate Exchange, London. I have recently been awarded the Surface Gallery X UKYA Prize and am currently working towards solo exhibitions at Surface Gallery, Nottingham and CheapCheap, an independent artist-led exhibition and testing space located at Lombard Method, Birmingham. Online and print publication of my individual practice as well as work by KW collective is soon to be published by RUNG, a Bristol-based contemporary arts platform.
Working primarily across textiles and installation, recent works involve the application of traditional Welsh quilting techniques to the representation of Welsh mythic heritage and popular cultural imagery. I am currently working to establish links between the re-presentation of traditional Welsh folklore in Lloyd Alexander’s ‘The Chronicles of Prydain’, and subsequently Disney’s ‘The Black Cauldron’, with the dissemination and diminution of traditional Welsh cultural narratives in contemporary Anglo/Western popular culture.
I teach Critical and Contextual Studies relating to Video Game Art at Confetti Institute of Creative Technology, Nottingham Trent University. I am co-founder of KÜHLE WAMPE collective and am currently BACKLIT Gallery’s Art Writer in Residence and co-founder of nott\s\poke regional art review blog.
